Caroline van Rijckeghem - Caroline van Rijckeghem is currently Associate Professor
of Economics teaching Macroeconomics for Emerging Markets and Public Economics in Istanbul, Turkey. She has recently co-authored two studies for Dev Strategies on aid effectiveness in the Eastern and the Mediterranean neighbours of the European Union (UK Department of International Development and European Commission).
Previously, she worked for 10 years at the International Monetary Fund, as a Senior Economist in the Emerging Markets Division, and an economist in the Commodities and Special Issues Division as well as in the Fiscal Affairs Department. In the IMF she was responsible for the Emerging Markets section of the International Capital Markets Report. She also worked on programmes in Albania and Algeria and technical assistance missions on tax and expenditure policies in Algeria and Kyrgyz Republic. She also was a main author for the IMFs "Guidelines to Fiscal Adjustment."
Caroline also work as an Intern in Eurostat (Brussels), the European Trade Union Institute
(Brussels) and the Congressional Budget Office (Washington, DC).
Caroline has published widely on financial and macroeconomic issues as well
as on employment and wages in the public sector. She referees for the
Journal of Money Credit and Banking, Journal of International Economics,
Journal of Development Economics and the European Journal of Political
Economy.
Caroline holds a Phd. in Economics from the University of California,
Berkeley and a B.S in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology.
